Rob Blackburn

Entering his 101h season as an ACHA D1 head coach and 5th with MSU D1, Rob began his 18th year coaching career in the Ann Arbor Hockey program and continued on to coach 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, & 19U teams, spending 3 years with Michigan AAA teams. He has coached teams to State Runner up, a State Championship, including a National Championship appearance in 2005. Rob gained  international coaching experience with a USA select team that traveled to Germany 2004, and with the 2013 USA World University Team that won the Bronze Medal in Trentino, Italy. Blackburn is the Facility Manager of the Michigan Memorial Phoenix Project and Nuclear Engineering Laboratory at the University of Michigan. Rob  has a wonderful supporting family that includes his wife of 31 years, Kathy (2nd grade Teacher), two terrific married daughters & son in-laws, Christina & Matt, Ashley & Mitch, and two grandsons, Landon (2.5 years) and Jackson (8 months).

The 2019-2020 season will be Nelson's first with MSU Women's Hockey.

Mackenzie McMahon

Communications Manager

The 2019-20 season will be Mackenzie’s 6th season with MSU Women's Hockey as Communications Manager. She oversees all communications related efforts for MSU Women's Hockey, including writing and posting all press releases and news stories about both Division I and Division II, communicating with coaches, managing all of the social media platforms for the teams and also assists in the designing of sports graphics for game day and post game use. Mackenzie also assists in the tracking of statistical information for both teams.

 

A graduate of Michigan State University, Mackenzie received her Bachelor’s degree in Communications in 2014. During her time at MSU, Mackenzie played for the MSU women’s ice hockey program for five years for both the Division I and Division II teams.

Katie Smith

Graphic Design Assistant 

The 2019-20 season is Katie's third season with MSU Women's Hockey as Graphic Design Assistant.

Her focus is on Graphic Design for both Division I and Division II teams, as well as supervise the Graphic Design Intern. Katie assists in creating game day graphics, post game graphics, and infographics for MSU women's hockey.

 

She is currently pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration; Marketing from Northwood University. Additionally, she is the Marketing Coordinator for a local telecommunications company, Metronet Telecom. You can also find her on the weekends managing a local Dairy Queen and serving customers at Sidebar in East Lansing. When she's not working, she loves to travel, spend time with friends and family, watch The Walking Dead, and of course support the Spartans! Go Green!

Audrey Kahler

Communications Assistant

The 2019-20 season will be Audrey's third season with MSU Women's Hockey as a Communications Intern.

Her focus is on all communications related efforts for both Division I and Division II teams. Audrey assists in writing and posting press releases and news stories, managing all social media platforms for MSU women's hockey.

 

Audrey is a recent graduate from Grand Valley State University with a B.A. in Communication Studies. Audrey grew up in a hockey-loving family and has always enjoyed the game, and looks forward to working with the Michigan State University Women’s Hockey Team for the 2017-2018 season. In her spare time, Audrey enjoys reading, photography, and engaging in a variety of creative pursuits.
