RECAP: D2 Spartans Sweep Bowling Green

The Division-2 Michigan State University women’s ice hockey team demolished the Falcons on Bowling Green University in their away series on December 3 and 4. The Spartans allowed just three total goals in two games, and tallied a total of 24 goals against BGSU for the sweep.


Game one ended with a 13-2 win for Michigan State with goals coming from freshman Meagan Hicks, junior Claire Bott (3), senior Gabriela Rowe (4), freshman Natalie Bullen, senior Cara Hodgins, junior Kat Poulos, junior Lindsay Reiss, and senior Caelie Lane-Powers. Bowling Green’s goal came halfway through the second period.

A total of 18 assistants, apples were tallied by freshman Mika Hamady (3), freshman Ella Kovach (4), freshman Jordan Goik, Reiss (2), Lane-Powers (3), Hodgins (2), Bott, Rowe, and Poulos.


Freshman Olivia Lucia was in net for the win over Bowling Green in game one.


Game two did not disappoint, as the Spartans brought the heat for the second time in a weekend, taking home an 11-1 win.


The first period brought just one goal, from Goik, her first of the weekend. The second period saw snipes from freshman Booke Kalis, junior Sydney Crawford, junior Christina Berels, Bullen, Lane-Powers and Kovach. Bowling Green found their lone goal of the game to start the third period, before Michigan State found four more goals from freshman Sam Paull, Hicks, Hodgins, and Bott.


The game had 12 assistants from the likes of freshman Kathryn Hessen, junior Lily Kirkman, senior Natalie Merriman, Hicks Hamady, Bott (2), Paull, Rowe, Poulos, Crawford, and Reiss.


Freshman Lauren Reiss was in net tallying the win for the Spartans.
