PREVIEW: Division 2 Spartans In Two-Game Series With Michigan-Dearborn

EAST LANSING, MI – The Division II Michigan State University women’s hockey team takes on the newest member of the Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association this weekend in a home-and-away series beginning tonight at 8pm. Friday night’s game in East Lansing will take place at Suburban Ice East Lansing, and tomorrow’s matchup has puck drop at 2pm in the Dearborn University of Michigan Ice Arena.



WOLVERINES WHISPERS

Michigan-Dearborn is on a hot streak in their first season in both the ACHA as well as the CCWHA, they enter the series with the Spartans at 4-0 with 30 goals for the Wolverines and just four goals against. Claudia Maguire has gathered 13 points (8g, 5a) for Michigan Dearborn in those first four games to lead the way in season one. Kim Primeau (7g, 4a) and Kaylee Keledjian (6g, 3a) are also among the top point leaders. Primeau currently leads the team in game-winning-goals with two. Victoria Hahn is the lone goaltender currently earning the 4-0 record. Between the pipes Hahn averages .92 goals against and has made 96 games in the Wolverines’ four games.


In their last bout on the ice, Michigan-Dearborn took on last year’s CCWHA regular season and tournament champion, Adrian College, and tallied a 7-1 win. The Bulldogs were taken down with goals from Odisoula Argyris, Alexa Robinson (1g, 2a), Lexi Garbacik, Keledjian, and Maguire (2g, 1a) and assists from Primeau, Piper Keranen (2a), and Elizabeth Schaffran (2a). Hahn stopped 18 of 19 shots from Adrian College for the win.


SPARTAN SNAPSHOT


Michigan State is currently 3-3-1 for the 19-20 season with 33 goals put in by the green and white and 26 goals against. Sophomore Gabriela Rowe has tallied a team high 12 points (7g, 5a) in seven games, while senior Lauren Larson has put up eight points (5g, 3a) herself. Senior Erin Panter also has tallied eight points for Michigan State all in assists. Junior Danielle Williams sits at 1-1 this season with 24 saves while freshman goaltender Katelyn Cygal is 2-2-1 with 41 saves for the Spartans. Division II took on a Concordia University in their last games, finishing the series out with an 11-1 win last Sunday. Williams recorded the win in net while Panter (3a), Larson (4g), Rowe (1g, 1a), junior Caelie Lane-Powers (1g, 2a), junior Gabrielle Borbolla (2g), sophomore Hannah Miller (2a), sophomore Sydney Taylor (1g, 3a) and senior Alex Paquette (1g) all registered points in the big win.


The Spartans have not yet played Michigan Dearborn as this is their first season as an ACHA team.
