RECAP: Asimakis Nets Two To Lead Spartans In Win Over Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Michigan State University Division I women’s hockey team finished out the series with fellow CCWHA league member Davenport University this past Saturday. The Spartans grabbed a 4-2 win after taking win one on November 10, 11-1.




Junior Katie Krumm began the night with her first goal of this season to take the lead just 59 seconds into play. Sophomore Lauren Kramer would snag the assist for her second of the year. The Panthers struck next while on the power play to tie things up, sending the two teams into the second period deadlocked at one. Cassidy Proctor would send out passes. Michigan State would strike for a third time, this time on the power play and from the hands of senior Julia Lutz. The 16th goal for Lutz this season had assists from seniors Amelia Schroeder and Kelsey Jaeckle. Davenport would make it a one-goal game after a second goal was put in the back of the net while on the power play. Asimakis would net her 12th goal of the season and finalize the 4-2 win with the lone third period goal of the game. Freshman goaltender Hannah Bigelow picked up her fourth in this season after stopping 17 shots. The green and white fired off 68 total shots on the Panthers’ netminder.


The game’s third star of the weekend goes to Lutz (1 GWG), second star belongs to Bigelow (17/19), and the first star of the game is awarded to Asimakis (2g).


The Spartans are off this weekend and for the rest of the semester. Division 1 finishes out the first half of 2019-20 at 9-0-1. They will take the ice again in the new year on January 11 for a scrimmage against the Victory Honda Women’s Senior B team, before welcoming the University of Massachusetts to East Lansing for an exhibition game on Sunday, January 12.
