RECAP: Division 1 Gets Third Sweep Of Season Against Aquinas

EAST LANSING, MI – The Division I Michigan State University women’s hockey team has made it eight wins in nine games to begin the 2019-20 season. Their eighth win came this Sunday as they took down Aquinas College, 10-0.


The Spartans began with a four goal first period, with sophomore Natalia Asimakis putting in the first of the game and the eventual game winner. Junior Morgan Graham and freshman Amber Danules with the apples on goal one for Michigan State Asimakis would follow up goal one with goal two three minutes later to make it 2-0 after a pass from senior Allison Lariviere. Senior Maddie Wolsmann put in her first goal of the game less than a minute later with helpers from freshman Katie Novell and junior Matti Savich. Wolsmann would follow suit with Asimakis and grab her second goal of the day after her first goal of the day. With two remaining in the first period, Graham would send a pass to Wolsmann who would finish for the fourth Spartan goal of the day. The second twenty minutes of play would only have a single score, and it would be Asimakis finding open net, earning her first hat trick with Michigan State. Sophomore Madison Baker would tally the assist on the lone second period goal. Just 45 seconds into the final period of the day, Lariviere would sneak one home after a pass from fellow captain Wolsmann, now making it 6-0 with a full period of play ahead. The green and white found themselves on the powerplay, where Asimakis would make it a four goal game as Baker and freshman Sydney Macpherson would grab the assists on the seventh goal of the

game. Two minutes later and another Spartan goal, this time an unassisted tally from Danules would make it 8-0 for the fifth ranked Spartans. Freshman Nadia Hoerman would send home goal nine and her fourth this season while on the powerplay for a 5-on-3. Savich with the assist on Hoerman’s goal. Wolsmann would tally her third of the day on the previously continued power play with help from Baker and Graham. In net freshman Savina Osann earned her first collegiate hat trick with 13 saves, while Michigan State fired off 68 shots on the AQ goaltender.

The game’s third star belongs to Baker (3a), second star goes to Osann (13 saves, SO), and first star is awarded to Asimakis (4g).

The Division I Spartans take on Davenport to finish out the series this Saturday, November 23 at 8:30 pm.
